€5m BioConnect grant award

€5m BioConnect grant award

As a proud founding member of the BioConnect Consortium, MBio are delighted that Heather Humphreys, Minister for Business, Enterprise and Innovation, has confirmed a €5m grant from Enterprise Ireland’s Regional Enterprise Development Fund to create a biotechnology innovation centre in Monaghan. This will bring the MBio team, currently housed in four facilities, together for the first time in a single biotechnology cluster – an exciting fillip for our future success.

MBio’s CEO, Peter Corcoran, comments, “The members and board of BioConnect are delighted with this grant, which will bring the Innovation Centre to life. The award comes at a crucially important time for companies operating in the border region, who face the challenge of BREXIT head on. BioConnect will firmly position this region as a vibrant centre for biotechnology. The centre is industry-led, and the growing cluster of businesses will use its facilities to accelerate the commercialisation of innovative high value products. Working with its academic partners, BioConnect will also create a centre of gravity to attract more exceptional biotechnology graduates to the region. The centre will support 250 jobs, which will create a further 1,000 jobs downstream.”

MBio – new brand identity for Monaghan Biosciences

MBio – new brand identity for Monaghan Biosciences

We are excited to announce our new name and visual identity.

MBio has been used informally by our teams and customers alike for some time. It is contemporary and concise, representing our contribution in a dynamic, modern industry. Adopting it as our trading name is a natural next step in our evolution.

Our new icon, a simplified interpretation of the mushroom which is at the very heart of our business, is bold and memorable, using colours representing our field and our heritage. Green represents bio-economy and sustainability, both fundamental to our current and future success. Blue traditionally represents Monaghan, our home county in Ireland.

Overall, our new brand identity is bright and fresh, representing the optimism and excitement that the MBio team holds for the future.

Sainsbury’s product launch – a combined vitamin B12 and D enhanced mushroom

Sainsbury’s product launch – a combined vitamin B12 and D enhanced mushroom

MBio has driven the science behind Sainsbury’s recent launch of a combined vitamin B12 and D enhanced ‘super mushroom’. This is a world first, building on the suite of vitamin and mineral enriched products developed by MBio, including selenium. The combination of vitamins B12 and D addresses two of the primary nutrient deficiencies of the vegan diet.

We will further develop this ground breaking product into a B12 enriched mushroom powder which will be available in 2019.
